Writing your travelog

One of the first things you will probably want to do is write an entry for your travelog. There are two ways you can write your first entry, but the simplest is to find the Update Travelog panel and look for the link Write New Entry which will take you to the right page.

Writing an Entry

All you have to do to write a travelog entry is:

• Give it a title where it says Enter the title
• Enter a date and time for the entry
• Put in the city where it says Enter the city
• Choose the right country from the list
• Tell us how you are feeling by selecting a mood from the list
• If you want to qualify your mood with a bit of further insight, you can:
  • Put in something extra in the adjacent field
  • If it agrees with the mood you selected from the list, choose and from the list, if it disagrees, choose but
  • For example: Happy and looking forward to tomorrow, or Dejected but determined.
• Now write your entry!
  • Wrapping of text is not important; Travelog will sort this out automatically.
  • Press Enter or Return twice to get separated paragraphs.
• If you want to add some pictures to it, use the button marked Add Pictures - it will submit your article and take you to a page where you can do this.

There are some things you should note about Travelog entries:

• You can not put links, images or HTML code in them.
• You can put in new paragraphs by pressing Enter or Return twice
• If they are longer than 100 words, they may not be displayed completely on the main page. There will be a link to the full entry though.

A note on dates and times

The date and time is very flexible. You can enter dates like 23 Mar 02 or March 23 or 2002-03-23. Dates that use the format xx/yy/zz or xx/yy/zzzz will be interpreted as American formatted dates, i.e. they will be read as mm/dd/yyyy. A date that Travelog can't understand will appear as the last day in 1969, so if you get that, then change your entry to use a date Travelog can understand.

For times you can use formats like 20:32, 8:32 pm or even 2032. A time that Travelog can't decipher will appear as 4 in the afternoon.

If you use relative terms for your time and date like last tuesday, now or 2 hours ago then they will be calculated according to where the Travelog computer is, not where you are. Because there may be a big time difference between where you are and where the Travelog is, you are better off using more concrete descriptions of dates and times.
