After saying goodbye to Mandy and Tim on the 26th of June, I spent the day wondering around town, introverted and sad, waiting for my American friend Patrick to get back from Machu Pichu so we could organise our trip, hopefully, back to Bolivia. BLOCKADES ARE APPARENTLY OVER.
So, thats just what happened, we ended up leaving 2 days later.... really glad to be leaving Cusco, had overstayed my visit by about 4 days.... ready to leave. Off to Copacabana on Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian side....YaYYYYYY. Well, the bus ride there was interesting. It was on overnight bus and ended up being the coldest bus I have ever travelled on ( probably the coldest I`ve ever been....fullstop). I would not be over exaggerating if I said it was below freezing. My sleeping bag was not even warm enough and it took me until 12 the next day for my feet to thaw. But we made it, no blockades, no war, no frozen corpses.
Copacabana is great.... so relaxing. We planned on staying 2 days and ended up staying 5. By day 2 we had developed a routine which saw us through the rest of the week... Wake up late from a hangover (Wayky`s bar), go down to the local restuarant that also had a TV and about 500 DVD`s, order breakfast, watch 1 or 2 movies, wonder around town, go to the internet, have tea, go for dinner and then back to Wayky`s.... RELAXATION.
oh, and I have to metion... checkout time from our hotel was at 10am, so every morning one of the people that worked there would bash on our door (because we slept in late) and yell if we were leaving or staying. This crude wake up call drove us insain and was the joke of the town, so by day 3 we had devised a plan. We stuck a piece of paper on the door the night before, letting him know our intentions for the next day.... finally, we could sleep in till 12.
We had arrived in Copacabana with 2 English girls. They were on there way to La Paz, but we managed to convince them to stop over the night. They are probably the funniest people I have ever met. There sense of humour was so dry and quick. I`m chuckling, just thinking about them. They left early the next day, it was short and sweet, but iŽll miss them. By that afternoon we had bumped into the South African Couple, Leon and Kate, we had met in Ica (sandboarding) and their friends Nicky (RSA) and Tim (Londoner), and ended up traveling with them for the next week or two. Great group of people.
So, 5 days later, after buying our tickets the day before because we knew we would never end up leaving otherwise, we headed off to the big city of LaPaz.
