Jazz Concert / House Fire

Date: 12 Mar 2008, 17:21 Place: Cuenca, Ecuador

Mood: Happy

This evening we went to see a free jazz concert in the centre of Cuenca, a few hours before Ryan and myself decided to take a wonder around town to pass the time till the concert started, we went to the mine square, the river and the market, but on the way back to the house I spotted a house that had some black smoke coming out of the roof, as we stopped to see what was going on the windows shattered and the smoke came poring out of the windows, as the air went in to the now glassless windows huge flames appeared from nowhere, now most of the houses in South America are built from clay with wood supports so there was lots to burn!!!, then all of a sudden a man came running from around the corner and went running in the the house next door, it then became very obvious what he was doing when he came out with a large gas bottle, then I remembered that all gas cookers in South America are supplied gas with gas bottles, on seeing him running out with a bottle made everyone think if there was a gas bottle in the burning building!!! well in the end the fire brigade came, and in the “we don't have safety laws” way put out the fire so we headed back home to get ready for the Jazz Concert, which was a event in itself, when we got there the were lots of chairs laid out and a tented area with the jazz band under, now just as people started to arrive and sit down, the rain decided to arrive and pore down, lol, at which point a guy who looked like the organiser motioned to everyone to move there chairs under the tented area, so in the end everyone got a very personal jazz concert as no one was more that 4 ft away from the band it was a very cool concert to be at because you were so close you could feel the music passing through your body more. And the rain didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits at all as there were still people dancing and drinking and everyone looked like to be having a gr8 time even with the rain.
