banos to Quito

Date: 18 Feb 2008, 20:20 Place: Quito, Ecuador

Mood: Overjoyed

18th February 2008 From Banos we headed for Quito, the capital of Ecuador, the reason for going to Quito was because while in Banos I had convinced myself to try to climb Cotopaxi !!! one of the worlds highest mountains. Once we got to Quito and had sorted the hostel we went to a few different tour and mountaineering places to get an idea of the price, 1 day hike was $150 but I was advised that it would be better if I did the 2 or even the three day hike as I was not a experienced climber! If only to get acclimatised to the altitude, because if I did not acclimatise properly then I would not make it to the top anyway, so with that advice I decided to go for the three day hike which included a hike up a mountain called rumenaui, we managed to get the price from $260 to $220 for a solo climb just me and the guide including the hire of ALL the equipment, so now that I had sorted my climb I had three days to find stuff to do as I was not due leave for Cotopaxi till the 22nd.
