Woke up this morning in Tanumshede and reexamined all of my tickets to make sure I was ready to be heading back to the UK. Realized that I misread the ticket and I don't have 2 full days to ride, but only 1. The ferry leaves tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., not p.m. All I can say is f*ck.
I rode over 100 miles and took a rest, but I was still over 30 from Gothenberg city center. I got there eventually but it was a long, hard day and I got lost more than normal! Stayed in a hotel in the city center. Getting to the ferry the next day was not easy - there is a canal splitting the city and only one bridge across for cars, and it's on stilts, and you can't see where to get on!
Yes, I made it. I'm going back to Scotland tomorrow and I can't wait. You'll get a more updated picture when I get home and the internet access doesn't cost so much, but what I did in 2 weeks should have been done in 3 or 4. There were too many hills and I didn't have time to stop and see anything or else I never would have completed the cycling bit!
Met lots of great people, tried many new foods, saw lots of exciting new places, got totally sunburnt as it was 3 weeks of constant sun, which is great for Florida or Spain but horrible when you need to spend the hottest part of the day trying to push your bike up a mountain. I mean Christ it was really hard!!! But now I can spend the next day in the ferry applying aftersun and resting my legs. I may venture out on deck if it's overcast.
Thanks to all who sent messages of encouragement along the way!
