Bangkok Hospital (again)

Date: 16 May 2008, 15:48 Place: Bangkok, Thailand

Mood: Happy but a bit ill

So Kaori got progressively worse after the last diary entry. We went to the pharmacy and they convinced us to spend a small fortune on an assortment of multi-coloured pills, she got worse still and yes, just like last time in Bangkok, I got to accompany my travelling companion to hospital. Before going we got Kaori's insurance documents together, only to discover her insurance had run out the day before - what are the fucking chances? Anyway, to get to hospital we had to get a taxi, and you'd think asking to be taken to the hospital with an obviously ill girl (she looked like shit) by the side of me, the Thai taxi drivers would cut us some slack and for once in their lives NOT try to rip off a foreigner. Nope. First taxi we got in was a right cunt, and was actually trying to use Kaori's vulnerability to make money. I told him he was a fucking wanker and we got out. The next one was better but it was still really difficult to get him to do the journey on the meter (they always try and negotiate an extortionate price up front instead). Fucking wankers.

So eventually we got to hospital, and the hospitals here really are something else you know. I'd actually recommend them to be part of anyones itinerary who is coming to Bangkok. You walk in the door and they employ people (normally beautiful ladies) just to say "hello". Then another beautiful lady asks what she can do to help (I had to bite my tongue) and then walks you to the right desk, where more beautiful ladies assist in any way they possibly can. I've been trying to get ill for the past few days just so I can go back but no joy (I even tried eating a bag of cockroaches and other bugs, see the photos). Anyway, we went to hospital and they ran a few tests on Kaori and then sent her on her way with a course of antibiotics and a smile. Again the taxi driver tried to rip us off on the journey home, this time by short changing us. Twat.

The next day, to cheer Kaori up, I took her shopping. Never been a big fan of shopping myself, especially with girls. But as the shopping centres have aircon and there was more beautiful Thai ladies I didn't mind so much this time. All was well until we got on the boat home (yes a boat) and Kaori slipped on the steps and decked it with an almighty whack on her back. She landed so hard she's actually got whiplash and has had bad neck pains and headaches for the last few days. I've tried unrelentingly to convince her to go to hospital (that's the kind of nice guy I am you know) but so far still no joy.

So we've been stuck in Bangkok now for a week. I've also got the same illness Kaori has had so we've been spending a whole lot of time doing nothing. I even had a look through my rucksack to see how much shit I carry round with me that I don't actually need:- a Bugs Bunny cup, a beer fridge magnet, a camera tripod, some tracksuit bottoms and a shirt that would have looked cool in a mid-90's Wigan nightclub. Hopefully we can go somewhere other than Bangkok for the last week (just nine days left now).
