Dublin Castle and whatnot
Date: 22 Sep 2003, 17:21 Place: Dublin, Ireland
Mood: Happy
So this weekend a lot of the people from the program were gone to various places, so the few of us that were left hung out around Dublin. On Friday I went with this girl to Dublin Castle...I'll attach the pictures, its pretty nice. I also have some pictures of O'Connell Street in Dublin...if you look closely enough at the picture of part of the O'Connell statue (on the angel's arm) you can see bullet holes from the Easter Rising in 1916, when some Irish nationalists took over the General Post Office for a week or so and got executed for it in the end.
I didn't do much else this weekend b/c we were supposed to go out into the countryside but it was raining a bit so we put it off for another day. I did find out today who I'll be working for in the Dail (thats pronounced doyle and its the Irish parliament). I got assigned to the leader of the Labour Party, which is basically as far left as you get here. Its pretty cool b/c they're the third largest party here and the leader is supposedly a really good orator. They're becoming more and more important in politics here. So I got one of the better assignments (I was almost hoping to get put with Sinn Fein which is the nationalist party - political wing of the IRA - just b/c it would have been really interesting, but I guess this is better lol).
Anyway, so everything is good here...I'm trying to plan various trips for the rest of the semester. Hopefully this Thursday I'll be getting tickets to the Liverpool vs. Leeds United soccer match...SO excited. This weekend I'm going to Galway and the Aran Islands which are on the west coast so I should have LOTS of beautiful pictures when I get back. Love and miss you all!

Arch to Dublin Castle (notice that the figure of Justice is pointing inwards to the Castle, not to the city...its a big joke among Dubliners that British justice was always turned inwards)
