Skiing and red wine

Mendoza is a lovely city, full of good bars, restaraunts and great architecture. It feels like we would imagine an Italian town to look. There is a large student population here so the place always seems lively.
Our hostel was a very cool place, in a modern large house, with pool table, ping pong, poker table, cable TV and a swimming pool in the back (far too cold to use at the moment). We spent a few more days chilling out, doing as the locals do (F all), and then went on a day trip to a ski resort called Los Penitentes. It felt good for us both to get back on the ...

Sipping coffees in Salta
Date: 24 Aug 2007, 21:10 Place: Salta,

Mood: Happy and relaxed
15th - 18th August 2007
After a few days in Salta, we had discovered a few things about Argentina and the people. There is a huge cafe culture here, people don´t seem to eat, just sit in sidewalk cafes chain smoking camel extra strength and sipping rocket fuel grade coffee. We have noticed that all the guys are huge, Glen has lost any bar fighting advantage here as he looks like a hobbit compared to most. Must be all the red meat and coffee. The women have to look perfect wherever they are and wear spray on denim 24/7, butt clenching tight even when their figure screams no. Even toilet cle...

Our last country - Argentina

Mood: OK I suppose
14th August 2007
After a bumpy and boiling hot bus journey, where the locals all wore hats, gloves, parkas and refused to open the windows, we were in Argentina. The border crossing was pretty simple, and we immediately noticed the difference between Argentina and the rest of South America, no one tried to get money from us, con us or plant crack on us at the border, there were many more cars on this side of the border, some quite swanky and everything just looked more civilised. To our relief there was a distinct lack of the pee pee smell that had followed us around for the last month in Bo...

Bolivian Salt Plains

Mood: Overjoyed but fed up of the jeep
10th - 13th Juy 2007
We left Tupiza on the 10th for our 4 day Salt Plain tour in a Land Cruiser with 2 other French Couples, a cook Betty and a driver Edwardo who looked about 15. This was to be our home for the next 4 days. We ascended up through the mountains in the Jeep and within a few hours we were at 4000m sucking in the thin air yet again. The scenary outside of Tupiza was stunning, with large red and and yellow, strangely formed rock formations. Glen made an immediate effort with our French companions, keen not to get off on the wrong foot and introduced himself and Sal to them all ...

8th - 9th July 2007
We left La Paz the day after the bike ride and headed down south to a place called Tupiza. This involved another long 16 hour bus journey over night. This one was really CRAP. The bus was smelly, dusty, and overcrowded. Sal´s chair didnt work so she had to sit bolt upright all night. There was also a drunk local on the bus who took on the task of being the bus dickhead and spent the whole night keeping everybody up rustling around the bus trying to sleep in the ailse right next to us, banging into Glen constantly. He seemed to give us special attention and spent mos...
