Whoa - June already - it feels like October! : ) I guess the Dixie Chicks lyrics wouldn’t have the same effect in the southern hemisphere, “You said the day that you would leave me would have to be a cold day in July.” And now it’s June and getting rather cold! In fact, I have been bitten by the cold and am rather sick right now.
I did just get back from my second trip to the deep south! It was really “Chilly” down there but I didn’t mind at all because there was snow!!!! But I had a great time and must say that I love southern Chile so much more than the other parts I have seen so far. I would love to spend months exploring it all. From the airplane I was just overwhelmed by how much wilderness there is! I could hardly handle how incredibly beautiful it was - it was evening and the sun was turning the sky pink and orange like sherbert! Below was totally white with glacier shelves streching between gigantic rocky peaks. And I could see where the glaciers would meet the fjords and blue lakes and there would be icebergs floating - and to imagine that I could see them so well from such a high altitude, I’m sure they are just huge!
Well, my trip was to go and visit my new friend/boyfriend named Carlos who is a park ranger in Torres del Paine. We had met when I was backingpacking in the park in April and we really hit it off. So, we have kept in touch some, and I figured that I should visit him just to kind of define for myself what “we” could be (since we hadn’t spent very much time togther in the park). But this trip was wonderful and we had so much fun together. From the beginning we both realized that our meeting was not just random - we had connected unlike anything else I’ve experienced in my life. He is just an absolutely amazing person. So, that’s why I decided to see him again and make a better decision about my feelings for him.
However, from now on I won’t be able to post pictures quite as easily because my camera was stolen. Somewhere along the way from Santiago to Punta Arenas it was taken from inside my backpack which was checked luggage. So, I immediately reported it stolen, but the airlines doen’t have a very good policy for compensation. I will try to talk to someone higher up in the company to see what they can do, but for now I’ll just use disposible cameras or have my friends take pictures for me! I’m really not too bummed! Many of my friends have had things stolen just in being in the cities or at school - I guess it was just my turn.
