Japan! We left - it was 9.30am on 31.05. We get here - it's 3pm on 02.06. Which means that technically I spend the entire first of June on a plane, which is also why I couldn't say happy birthday to someone.
But details! I am now in Japan, on the edge of Tokyo (Chidori-cho, if anyone cares) and about to head into town. First impressions were... strange? It's by far not as high-tech as I had expected. Mobile phones are chunky, everyone looks tired and a bit sad. Might just have been the fact that it was Monday morning though. Now that we're in the suburbs, the contrast to Anime/Manga Tokyo becomes even more evident. Lots of tiny shops that close early, and no one speaks English. We got by yesterday by taking the woman from the restaurant outside and pointing at the pictures of the stuff we wanted. Which, of course, didn't turn out to be what you thought it would be. But still, it's all good. Apparently I slept for 14 hours because I just passed out yesterday evening. Time to go into town and discover the more touristy bits!
