The world is blue and green once more, it's marvellous. I did very little today, most of the day I sat in the garden reading a book and, as I noticed at dinner, getting slightly sunburnt (but only on the arms so it's ok - no pain). Also took the dog out for a nice long walk in the woods until she was tired. I wasn't, I couldn't get enough of being back in a sunflooded forest with blue skies above.
On a slightly more serious note, I tried to calculate my carbon footprint, thinking that it must be horrendous after the whole Sri Lanka / Maledives detour and the general stupid amount of flying ...

What is this, you might ask. Whatever happened to spelling, why the X? Well.
First of all, I'm back in Berlin. That's the unsurprising bit. Second, my luggage is also back in Berlin. That's slightly more surprising. I went to T5 and out of T5, so there was actually no security to go through (woot) and in Aberdeen, they even let me keep my shoes on (huzzah). Now because today is a windy day, and as everyone knows there might be neurotoxins in the wind or something, so either way pretty much every single plane was delayed. I'm not talking about the ones I took, I'm talking about all the ones ...

It's been just over a year since I started this travelog and the circle is finally closing itself. Turns out my supervisor at CERN is not shunning me, he was just in a coma for almost 3 months. NOW he's offering to be extremely helpful, but it's obviously a bit late. If I ever meet Murphy, there will be blood.
Either way, looking back I'm happy I kept in touch with at least some of the people from then and facebook is giving me the wonderful illusion that if I so wished, I could get a hold of the rest as well. Bits of nostalgia, for once not because of the people but because of my superviso...

Well ok, so once more I'm not anymore where it says I am. I got back yesterday at far too late o'clock from two days of more or less successful flat hunting in York. After a bit of umming and ahing, I had decided to live with random people again (but not neighbours addicts this time) and I met two of the three, they seem like nice people. For all the eccentrism and awkwardness that scientists are accredited with, I'm always a bit surprised at how normal people are whose job description is something along the lines of "find funky ways to build massive lasers" or "improve stuff that doesn't exis...

Back in Aberdeen! Feels good. What feels even better is that we had a little chat with the BA people and managed to get on a different flight, which brought us back here a lot earlier than was planned... there might have been a little threatening or mentioning of certain incidents from when I was stuck in Heathrow on my way back from Paris, but details!
Now I'm fighting my "jet lag" a bit. It's not so much a jet lag as the consequence of being awake for almost 3 days without any decent sleep, even if we managed to almost pass out on the plane from Columbo to Heathrow, due to not having slep...
